MBA MENTOR PROGRAM

Portland-area business professionals and PSU alumni are invited to participate in the MBA + Mentor Program.

The Mentor Program is designed to provide an opportunity for students to gain clarity on their career goals, learn from another professional’s experiences in his/her career field, and establish an important networking relationship.

Mentors serve multiple roles for a student - friend, coach, colleague, and teacher. The opportunity to help make a positive difference in a student's professional life even before they start their post-MBA careers can be very rewarding. With the guidance and support of a mentor, students are given opportunities to learn about the range of career opportunities available within an industry or function, and develop confidence in interacting with senior business professionals.

The MBA + Mentor Program is designed to be flexible. Once introduced, the student and mentor meet as often as the two would like to meet. Most of our mentor-student teams meet on a monthly basis. Some of the topics covered in the mentor relationship are:

  • Creating informational interview opportunities with other professionals
  • Invitations to attend professional gatherings
  • Resume and cover letter critiques

The program is kicked off annually either in fall or winter term. If you're considering becoming a mentor and would like to receive more information about the program, please contact the Director of Graduate Career Services & Corporate Outreach.

Business professionals representing a variety of fields and industries have volunteered to serve as mentors to MBA + students. We'd like to thank all our mentors.

"Mentoring has provided me with a tremendously rewarding and energizing way to give back to the university. I welcome the opportunity to actively engage in a program designed to develop the region's next generation of civic and business leaders.

There's something in it for me, too. Through conversations with my mentoree, I am exposed to what's happening in the academic world. I find tremendous satisfaction in simply helping someone — and it's been totally fun."
