MBA+ STUDENT LIFE

Student Schedule
The fast pace of our program reflects the speed of life in many business workplaces. The time demands can be significant - full-time students spend up to 20 hours per week in class and up to 50 hours per week with homework, while part-time students generally spend 10 hours in class and 25 hours with homework on a weekly basis. You will learn the time management skills necessary to prioritize a heavy workload.
The cohort learning system helps make it possible for you to cover academic material rapidly. Because students move through the program on a common path, each assignment is shared by every one of your classmates at the same time. This encourages students to develop teamwork skills as they face their common challenges. Teamwork, in turn, helps ensure that all students keep pace in our accelerated program. You work hard, but you receive support from relationships built with your classmates at every step.
Recreation
PSU’s campus is located in the center of downtown Portland, a casual city prized for both its natural surroundings and cosmopolitan sensibilities. Livability and a healthy economy keep Portland at the top of “Best Places to Live” lists from publications as diverse as Inc. Magazine and Men’s Journal. With its coffee shops, craft brew pubs, bookstores, restaurants, and vibrant arts scene, Portland lives up to its reputation.
Just outside the city, world-class recreation abounds. From snowboarding to surfing, hiking to mountain biking, all can be reached in a short car trip. For a more relaxed pace, the Willamette Valley offers scenic vineyards just 25 miles south of downtown.
Diversity
As Oregon’s most ethnically and culturally diverse public university, we offer students a unique and enriching global perspective. Portland State University supports a long-standing tradition that study of other cultures and places is an essential part of education. We actively seek to broaden our involvement with the global community. As a whole, the University offers 135 study abroad opportunities in nearly 40 countries, and we have long-standing programs in Italy, China, Germany, Japan and Korea. PSU offers 23 foreign languages, more than any other university in the state. On campus, we serve students from all 50 states and 91 countries representing the full spectrum of races, cultures, ages and interests. PSU is an eclectic place where many languages are spoken, many cultures are shared, and students are given endless opportunities to enrich their learning.
"I get to know almost all my cohort members one on one. The diversity is awesome – there are over 10 nationalities in a class of about 26 people (countries represented include: Nigeria, India, Germany, Russia, South Korea, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Ecuador, Greece, and of course the native Americans). Also it is amazing that military personnel, financial analysts, coaches, retail store managers, consultants, energy services analysts, bankers, and fresh graduates are all together in a class, adding their real world experiences. I may not have had the privilege of being part of such a community in a bigger class. My PSU class already feels like a second family for me."
