In addition to unmatched scenic beauty and recreation opportunities, Portland is home to many of the most creative and innovative companies in the U.S. What’s more, our position as a major port city on the Pacific coast makes us an important link to Asia’s markets.

PSU’s location in the heart of the thriving downtown Portland business community, combined with the resources of our Alumni Association, give our School of Business Administration extensive access to area business leaders. As a student in the MIM program, this will provide you with unmatched opportunities for internships, real-world project experience, and career building activities. The MIM program also enjoys regular business contacts in Asia thanks to our alumni working in the area and our annual Asia Study Tour.

Portland is home to key players in many major industry sectors including:

• Sporting/Recreation: Led by Nike, adidas America, Columbia Sportswear, and filled with a host of small, entrepreneurial goods and services providers for whom the Pacific Northwest defines “sport and recreation.”
• High Tech: Major players include Intel, Hewlett Packard, IBM, and a solar system of small-to-medium sized, successful high tech firms spawned from creative, entrepreneurial Portlanders in the late 70's and 80's.
• Creative Services: Portland has a well-deserved reputation as a center for creative excellence, with some of the country's leading product design, architecture, advertising, web services, and animation firms, including Wieden&Kennedy, Allied Works, Ziba Design, and LAIKA among others.
• Food Industry: Oregon's gentle climate and abundant rainfall make agriculture and related food products a major economic source, with grains, fish, nuts, fruit, wine and dairy products major Oregon exports, particularly to Asian and domestic markets. We are also fortunate to have close access both to fertile ocean fishing grounds and prime grazing lands for livestock.
• Sustainability: Portland is home to the leading edge of companies and organizations dedicated to building and supporting sustainable business practices, including EcoTrust and The Natural Step.
